This is the second year CICS has collaborated with the Bank of Montreal in the United Way Day of Caring with the objective of supporting newcomer job seekers. The event was hosted at the Immigrant Resource Centre on November 19, 2015.
Over 10 staff members from different BMO departments volunteered their time to share their knowledge and expertise with our new immigrant clients, most of whom are internationally trained professionals. As part of the networking process, the new immigrants had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with the BMO representatives in a “speed-dating” format. They learned first-hand about the banking industry in Canada, received tips on Canadian workplace culture and obtained feedback on their job search strategies. It was a rewarding experience for the BMO staff who treasured the chance to give back to the community by supporting new immigrants. Our newcomer job seekers likewise enjoyed this valuable opportunity of meeting with professionals in the field and receiving hands-on tips and encouragement in their job search process.
