Two of Ontario’s biggest corporations, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and General Motors (GM), joined forces with CICS in hosting a networking event for newcomers on August 16 at Immigrant Resource Centre, the headquarter of CICS.
The Day of Sharing session gave the newcomer job seekers the opportunity to network with representatives from different departments of OPG and GM, including the talent acquisition and maintenance departments. Apart from learning about the engineering and automobile industries in Canada, participants also gained insights into OPG and GM corporate culture and job search strategies in general. This session operated in a speed mentoring format and all participants appreciated the chance to engage in one-on-one conversations with the OPG and GM staff. While the participants were touched by the honest and friendly sharing at this event, the OPG and GM staff were likewise impressed with the skills and energy brought by these newcomer professionals to the Canadian labour market.
