On Friday August 26th, we celebrated the final day of the CICS Good Food Market, which happened alongside our annual Garden Fun Fair.
Over the season, CICS attracted an average of 70 people per market, and sold over $2200 worth of fresh produce to residents, community members, and of course CICS Staff. We were pleased to have had the opportunity to create ‘fruitful’ new relationships with farmers in local communities, and to be able to sell locally grown organic produce at such affordable prices.
The CICS Good Food Market is a project developed in partnership with FoodShare. The project was a significant opportunity for our local youth to learn about food, cooking, growing, and also handling money and tending to customers. The aim of the project is to improve access to not only fresh healthful foods, but also to bring more locally grown and organic foods into our neighbourhoods.
