On October 22nd, 2016, The CICS Immigrant Youth Centre hosted a University and College Fair, participated by seven universities/colleges and many newcomer students and parents.
In addition to learning about post-secondary education in Canada from these education institutes, three current university/college students were invited to share stories about their student life and how they became successful in school as newcomer youth. It was a successful event attended by more than 80 people between 11 am and 3 pm, and many of their questions about post-secondary education planning were answered. After the students had a chance to talk to the school and student representatives, they gained a better understanding of how they can plan for their future education.
Participating universities and colleges included: Brock University, Centennial College, Wilfrid Laurier University, Queen’s University, Seneca College, University of Toronto, and York University. Some other universities/colleges that were unable to join in person also sent their program information and reading materials for participants.
