Hours:         35 hours per week; may work irregular hours, including evenings Saturdays and some holidays

Summary of the Position / Nature and Scope:

The Community Health Manager will be responsible for managing a small team of staff delivering CICS’ Community Food Program including the food bank, community garden, greenhouse and community kitchen programming. This role will engage the community food program with other programs and services of CICS such as our seniors programs, early years programs, women programs, housing support services, employment support programs, etc. to form a set of holistic, wrap around services for clients.  The position will also support the transition of CICS’ community services program towards a focus of community health and wellness, in keeping with Pillar 3 of CICS’ Strategic Plan 2023-2028. 

 

As part of that initiative, the Community Health Manager will design outcome measurement methodologies for program and services that indicate which social determinants of health each individual program is trying to address and how to measure the program’s impact and effectiveness towards achieving those outcomes.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·         Supervise and support the program staff in the planning and execution of the Community Food Program which includes all activities in the community garden, kitchen, foodbank and greenhouse.

·         Design an outcome measurement framework that measures the effectiveness of the programs in terms of client satisfaction, meeting clients’ needs and addressing social determinants of health. 

·         Develop an annual service plan, in consultation with the Senior Program Director, to improve program effectiveness and monitor trends and changes in client demographics and needs.

·         Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with community-based and other organizations and municipal or other public/government agencies.

·         Work with internal and external groups to maintain the CICS community service programming;

·         Lead on-site training, workshops and community events;

·         Ensure programs and services are culturally sensitive to service recipients, and support program goals;

·         Oversee the implementation of evaluation measures on program effectiveness, conduct factual investigation and develop solutions to problems that negatively impact the programs;

·         Research and make recommendations to the Senior Program Director to evaluate emerging client needs and new program approaches and ideas in the context of CICS’s mandate and facilitate delivery of the refined programs;

·         Maintain accurate data; provide timely and accurate program and operation status updates to the Senior Program Director for review, when required;

·         Support staff and their programming but putting boots on the ground when needed such as in the community garden or food bank operation.

·         As a member of the management team, collaborate closely with other Program Managers and coordinators within CICS to increase and enhance program and service coordination, including planning, promotion, implementation and delivery;

·         Research opportunities to promote CICS programs internally and externally;

·         Remain informed on information, resources, and policies relevant to the program mission.

 

Qualifications:

·         Canadian university degree or equivalent in Community Health, Health Promotion, Social Services, Community Development or related field, with work experience demonstrating program/community development skills

·         Minimum three years of relevant work experience in a management role, preferably in a non-profit setting.

·         Knowledge and experience with community health programs and services

·         Knowledge and experience with recognized community development tools and approaches

·         Excellent knowledge of community and other resources related to food security and/or urban agriculture an asset;

·         Strong understanding of the social, cultural and economic issues faced by newcomer/refugee/at-risk/low-income individuals and families;

·         Experience building relationships in diverse communities;

·         Dedication to promoting equity, inclusivity and diversity;

·         Computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and data management; 

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;

·         Fluency in a language commonly used by clients would be an asset (Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Tamil, Urdu or other South Asian languages);

 

Other Requirements:

·         Work in an office and occasionally in an outdoor environment, requiring physical outdoor activities related to gardening and other project activities. May require some lifting in garden or food bank setting,

·         Workshop development, filing materials and some travelling within the Greater Toronto Area for meetings.

·         Vulnerable Sector Screening required
