CICS offers unique programming and services for immigrant women and their families from diverse backgrounds as they integrate into a new country. Our Settlement Workers provide one-on-one settlement service, orientation, information and referrals, interpretation and advocacy to all immigrant women in need.
With the support from volunteers and community partners, we offer a variety of women's programs and support groups all year around. All the programs and support groups provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for immigrant women.
Since the inauguration of the Immigrant Women Resource Centre in November 2016, a wide range of programs and services have been offered, aiming at empowering immigrant women to become self-confident, relationally competent and financially independent; aligning with our motto, "Skills and Strength for Today, Hopes and Dreams for Tomorrow". It provides participants with employable skills so they can move beyond precarious employment and obtain entry level career opportunities in administration and establish a realistic career plan.
Over an eight-week period, clients receive intensive in class training on computer skills, customer service, relevant work place language, soft skills, job search skills as well as one-on-one support for career planning and employment support. Following the training, participants are placed with employers for a four-week placement, with the goal of eventually being hired permanently..
- S.E.E.D. ( Self-Employment and Entrepreneurship Development) Enterprise
This program provides immigrant women with real opportunities as well as guidance and support to start their own business. The training program includes steps to start a small business, development of a business plan, legal issues, knowledge of business practices in Canada, and experience sharing by business owners. We also provide a platform for them to turn their dreams of business ownership into reality by utilizing our office space to offer interest classes or sell their products.
The Women Volunteer Training aims to enhance self-confidence of immigrant women. They practice their language skills, learn about community resources, build the skills they need to help themselves and their families, and expand their social network beyond their ethnic group. Through the supportive environment and contribution to the community by volunteering after the training, the immigrant women are empowered and become more confident.
For enhancing their relational competence, we offer programs such as:
- Triple P parenting skills training for the parents with children between 0 and 8 years of age

Consisting of management representative, service users, volunteers, and concerned community members, the Women Council meets quarterly (and ad hoc when needed) to discuss women's issues and needs, acting as an advisory committee that makes recommendations to CICS to ensure appropriate services and programs for women and their families.
